September 12 marks the Day of Liberation of Sviatohiria from Russian occupation. It was on this day in 2022 that Ukrainian troops liberated the town.
The operation to liberate Sviatohiria was part of a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in Kharkiv region, which spread to the north of Donetsk region. Soldiers of the National Guard, the Armed Forces and the Territorial Defense Forces were involved in the operation. Sviatohiria was occupied for 101 days.
During this time, Russian troops destroyed and damaged a significant number of buildings in Sviatohirsk and completely destroyed Bohorodichne, Mazanivka, Krasnopillia, and Dolyna, leaving no surviving buildings.
Back in early August 2022, the National Flag of Ukraine was raised over the highest point in Sviatohirsk. It was raised by soldiers of the General Kulchytskyi Battalion together with border guards, emphasizing that Sviatohirsk is Ukraine.
Since then, a new chapter has begun in the history of Sviatohirsk. Despite the relative proximity of the front line, the community has begun to rebuild, healing the wounds caused by the war. Unfortunately, the occupiers continue to destroy the town, taking away the lives of its civilians.
We are grateful to all the military who defend our country!
