November 16 - International Day for Tolerance

Published 16 November 2025 year, 11:31

November 16 marks International Day for Tolerance. This holiday was established by UNESCO in 1995 with the adoption of the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance at the 28th General Conference. The document emphasizes the equality of all people regardless of their origin, religion, ethnicity, skin color, or sexual orientation. The principles of tolerance are consistent with the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which proclaims the inadmissibility of discrimination, genocide, and other manifestations of human rights violations.

Ukraine also consistently supports these approaches. In November 2015, the Verkhovna Rada adopted an "anti-discrimination" amendment to the Labor Code, further enshrining equality and non-discrimination in the workplace on all specified grounds. This was an important confirmation of the democratic development and tolerance of Ukrainian society.

Tolerance is not only the acceptance of a different worldview or way of life, but also respect for human individuality and recognition of the fundamental rights and freedoms of every person. In today's difficult times, it is especially important for us to maintain mutual respect and support, because our common future depends on it.

Let us be tolerant and unite for Victory!
