Decolonization: lists of persons and events that contain and do not contain symbols of Russian imperial policy have been published

Published 11 October 2025 year, 12:18

In accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On the Principles of State Policy on National Memory of the Ukrainian People,” the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory has published lists of persons and events, objects dedicated to which contain or do not contain symbols of Russian imperial policy.

These lists are compiled on the basis of expert conclusions of the Expert Commission, formed in accordance with the second paragraph of part two of Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine “On the condemnation and prohibition of propaganda of Russian imperial policy in Ukraine and the decolonization of toponymy” and the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, which were provided on their own initiative or at the request of authorities, legal entities, and citizens.

They are not exhaustive and will be supplemented with new data on persons and events from the periods of the Moscow Tsardom, the Russian Empire, the Russian State, the RSFSR, the USSR, and the modern Russian Federation.

The main purpose of publishing the lists is to assist local authorities in implementing the Law of Ukraine “On the condemnation and prohibition of propaganda of Russian imperial policy in Ukraine and the decolonization of toponymy,” as well as to inform the public.
