On the first Sunday of October, Ukraine celebrates Teacher’s Day — a holiday honoring those who shape the country’s future by giving children knowledge, care, and love.
For many teachers, the past few years have been a true test: forced relocation, closure of schools, and staff reductions. Yet even in these circumstances, educators remain loyal to their profession — and the Employment Service has become a reliable source of support for them.
Since the beginning of the year, with the assistance of the Donetsk Employment Service, more than 500 teachers have found jobs, while another 200 educators have taken the opportunity to gain a new qualification or upgrade their skills through a training voucher program. Behind each number lies a personal story — a life path and a difficult journey of someone who found the strength to start anew despite the challenges.
For example, Olha Soklakova, a primary school teacher with 15 years of experience, was forced to leave her native Ukrainsk and move to the Dnipro region. After the closure of the school where she had been teaching remotely, she faced a tough choice about her future.
Employment Service specialists helped Olha update her résumé, identify her strengths, and search for job openings. Soon, a vacancy for a primary school teacher opened at a local lyceum. On September 1, Olha welcomed her new students and returned to the work she loves.
Ella Danylina had taught children labor studies, technology, and art for many years at a school in Ukrainsk. When the school was shut down, she turned to the Employment Service for help. Recruiters actively searched for suitable job options and arranged online interviews with employers. At Selydove Lyceum No. 1, which currently operates remotely, a vacancy opened for a labor and technology teacher. The specialists organized an online interview for Ella, during which her candidacy was approved. For her, this was not only a new job but also the restoration of a sense of belonging to her community, support from familiar colleagues, and the opportunity to once again contribute to children’s education.
These stories are just a few among many. The Employment Service is always there to ensure that teachers are not left alone with their challenges. We help them find new vacancies, provide career counseling, and open opportunities for learning or mastering a new profession.
On Teacher’s Day, we express our gratitude to all educators for their work and dedication to children.
