The Donetsk Regional Center for Tourism and Local History of Student Youth held the fifth stage of the DonOrientChamp orienteering championship among student youth in a remote format.
This year's competition brought together teams and individual participants from five regions of Ukraine - Donetsk, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa and Sumy. The total number of participants reached 241, including 159 children from Donetsk Oblast.
A special feature of this stage was the individual and team competitions in online orienteering in a given direction. Participants received a sports map of the area in advance, and on the day of the competition, a video was published on the Google Classroom platform showing the Center's instructor walking a real course in Korostyshiv, Zhytomyr region, starting from a certain point. The task of the students was to carefully review the route and mark the locations of the control points on the map.
This format of the competition develops spatial thinking and attention and allows us to engage young people from different regions of Ukraine, regardless of wartime conditions.
The winners in their age categories of the fifth stage were:
- in the group of girls under 10 years old - Elina Chernoval (Velyka Novosilka village);
- in the group of girls and boys aged 10-12 - Kudla Yelyzaveta (Bakhmut) and Martynov Artem (Sloviansk);
