A coordination meeting chaired by Oleksandr Shevchenko, Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, was held to discuss preparations for a health and wellness campaign for children in 2026.

The meeting was attended by deputy heads of district state administrations, deputy heads of military administrations of settlements in the Donetsk region, as well as heads of structural units responsible for organizing health and recreation programs for children.

Representatives of relevant departments of the regional state administration, the municipal enterprise “Regional Children’s and Youth Sanatorium and Health Resort Complex ‘Pearl of Donetsk Region,’” and the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine also joined the meeting.

The meeting participants reviewed key issues regarding the organization of children’s health programs in 2026, identified priorities and specific tasks for local authorities, and agreed on mechanisms for cooperation between regional agencies and communities.

Olena Tokareva, Director of the Department of Social Protection of the Population at the Regional State Administration, provided an update on the progress of the health campaign. She emphasized community participation in state programs, as well as support for families in transporting children to recreational facilities, particularly in cooperation with charitable organizations.

This year, the regional children’s complex “Pearl of Donetsk Region” will continue its operations and welcome children for its first health camp session starting May 25. The facility will organize recreational activities at the “Karpaty” (village of Karpaty) and “Sunny Transcarpathia” (village of Polyana) sanatoriums.

During the meeting, the “KARPATSKA ZMINA” project was also presented. The project focuses on the mental and physical recovery of children from frontline regions and combines health programs with elements of team sports featuring well-known Ukrainian soccer players. As part of the initiative, 200 children from Donetsk Oblast will be able to participate in the program, including children of military personnel, law enforcement officers, and other categories.

To date, nearly 700 children in the region who require special social attention and support have received health services. The relevant services are continuing this work.

Parents or guardians can contact the social protection departments in their communities, as well as district state or military administrations, to obtain referrals for their children’s health and recreation programs.
