The Department of physical culture and sports of the Donetsk regional state administration continues to summarize the results of the region's athletes' performances at national and international competitions on a monthly basis.

The best athletes of July were determined in three categories: olympic, non-olympic sports, and sports for people with disabilities. The voting was conducted among the expert group of the Department of physical culture and sports of the Donetsk regional state administration and fans on Facebook.

Polina Khalkevych was named athlete of the month among the olympians. She is a master of sports of Ukraine in rock climbing, a representative of the school of higher sportsmanship in Donetsk oblast. At the U-19 category at World Championships held in Italy, she won a silver medal in the “speed” event. The title of “Best coach” went to Polina’s trainer, Ihor Tyapkin, a coach at the school of higher sportsmanship in Donetsk oblast.

The winners in the corresponding non-olympic categories were representatives of the Bakhmut city council’s comprehensive children’s and youth sports school No. 1. Yelyzaveta Morenko was named best athlete – an international class master of sports of Ukraine in sumo, who won two gold medals at the European Cup: in the open weight class and in the over-80-kg class. The title of best coach in the Donetsk oblast for non-olympic sports was awarded to Yelyzaveta’s coach, Oleg Reva, an honored coach of Ukraine.

In the category “Sports for people with disabilities,” representatives of the Donetsk regional sports school for children and youth with disabilities were recognized. Valentina Grygoryeva – an honored master of sports of Ukraine in powerlifting for athletes with visual impairments – has been named athlete of the month. At the European Championships in Turkey, in the 67.5 kg weight class, she won gold in the total, set a world record in the squat, and took silver in the bench press. The title of “Best coach” went to Valentyna’s coach, honored coach of Ukraine Ihor Kotlyarov.

It is worth noting that Polina Khalkevych, along with Ihor Tyapkin, as well as Yelyzaveta Morenko and Oleg Reva, have been recognized as the best athletes and coaches in the Donetsk region for the second month in a row.

We would like to add that, according to the decision of the commission for selecting the best athlete and coach of the month in Donetsk oblast, special awards will be given to athletes who received the most support in a fan poll on Facebook:
