The Department of physical culture and sports of the Donetsk regional state administration continues to summarize the results of the region's athletes' performances at national and international competitions on a monthly basis.
The best athletes of August were determined in three categories: olympic, non-olympic sports, and sports for people with disabilities. The voting was conducted among the expert group of the Department of physical culture and sports of the Donetsk regional state administration and fans on Facebook.
Among the olympians, Oleksandr Dyskyi from the Pokrovsk community was named Donetsk oblast’s athlete of the month – a master of sports of Ukraine in rugby, a winner of the European men’s beach rugby championship held in Moldova. The title of “Best сoach” went to Volodymyr Lysenko, Oleksandr’s coach.
The winner of the “Best athlete” category among non-olympic athletes was Davyd Rubets – an international-class master of sports of Ukraine in powerlifting and a representative of the Mangush community. At the World Junior Championships in the Republic of South Africa in the 105 kg weight class, he won silver in the total, squat, and bench press, and also took bronze in the deadlift. The title of “Best coach” in the Donetsk oblast for non-olympic sports was awarded to Davyd’s coaches – honored coach of Ukraine Ivan Zbandut and coach Nazariy Dyachuk.
In the category “Sports for people with disabilities,” representatives of the Donetsk regional center for physical culture and sports for people with disabilities “Invasport” were recognized: Vladyslav Yepifanov, honored master of sports of Ukraine in para-canoe and silver medalist at the World Championships for athletes with musculoskeletal disorders in the 200-meter race in the VL3 class in Poland, and his trainer Yuriy Kyrylenko, honored coach of Ukraine.
We would like to add that, according to the decision of the commission responsible for selecting the best athlete and coach in the Donetsk region, Zakhar Tsivkovskyi – a master of sports of Ukraine in triathlon and bronze medalist in the individual competition at stage of European Junior Cup – will receive a special award from the department based on his results in August 2026.
