On May 21, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity, a public holiday that unites all free indigenous peoples and national communities, each of which makes its own unique contribution to the culture, development and protection of Ukraine's independence.
Prior to the full-scale invasion, Donetsk region was home to many nationalities: 133 ethnic groups out of 134 in Ukraine lived in the region. The Donetsk Regional State Administration launched an annual festival of national cultures.
The first Ethno-Weekend, held in 2021, brought together participants from all over Donetsk Oblast. The diversity of traditions, unique rituals, authentic dishes, national games, songs and dances gave the festival guests an unforgettable experience.
The multinational Donetsk region has shown itself to be united and friendly, bright and talented, hospitable and delicious. And it will show it again, because Ethno-weekend is alive and well.
The Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity is about respect and national identity. Despite everything, we carefully restore, preserve and popularize our culture, strive to be ourselves and be together.
