From November 11 to 13, 2025, King's College London hosted a ceremony celebrating the anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum 2025, organized by the Magna Charta Observatory.
This event brought together university leaders, academics, politicians, and students from around the world to discuss current trends and prospects for the development of global education and science.
One of the key issues discussed was the functioning of the higher education and science system during wartime, as well as the adaptation of universities to operating under martial law.
Ukraine was represented at this important event for the global academic community by Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University. Rector Ilya Khadzhinov showed the international community recent examples of how Russia is trying to destroy educational institutions in Ukraine with rocket attacks, emphasizing the importance of condemning these actions by international colleagues.
The example of Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University, as one of the most successful cases of restoring the activities of higher education institutions after their relocation, demonstrated the resilience of the Ukrainian higher education system.
The rector emphasized that war reinforces the importance and significance of public service as one of the key principles enshrined in the Magna Carta and forms the foundation of activities during wartime, with leadership, staff, and students filling it with meaning.
The participation of Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University in this event clearly demonstrated that despite the challenges of war, Ukrainian universities remain competitive on the international stage, offering the world a unique experience of resilience, service, and high performance in wartime conditions.
