Independence is....
For everyone, this word has its own meaning. Home. Freedom. Family. Language. The right to live on one’s own land. The opportunity to choose one’s own future.
To mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, communities from across the country came together for a flash mob titled “For Me, Independence Is…” as part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities.”
Partner communities joined the initiative—the Solotvyno settlement community and the Chyhyryn city community, as well as communities in the Mariupol district: Mangush, Mykolaivka, and Sartana.
Today, hundreds of kilometers separate us. Some live and work at home, some are building their communities while displaced, and others’ towns and villages remain under occupation. But when it comes to Independence, there are things that unite us regardless of distance.
This video does not offer a single definition of Independence. There are many voices and many personal answers that together make up one united Ukraine.
Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!
