An event that symbolized the strength of the human spirit and support in wartime took place at the O.O. Shalimov National Scientific Center for Surgery and Transplantology: the creation of a new family.
Denis and Milena met in 2024 in Kramatorsk. Denis was in the city on official business, while Milena was a local resident. Their acquaintance grew into a serious relationship, which the young people decided to continue despite the difficult circumstances.
In November 2024, Denis was seriously injured by a mine explosion near Kostyantynivka. Due to intense shelling, evacuation from the positions was difficult, which led to prolonged ischemia and the development of tourniquet syndrome. As a result, doctors were forced to amputate both lower limbs and his left arm.
After undergoing emergency surgery in Kharkiv, the soldier was sent for further treatment to the O.O. Shalimov National Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics. He spent a long time in the intensive care unit, where medical staff fought for his life. Throughout the entire treatment period, Milena stayed by Denis' side, providing constant moral support.
Without waiting for the treatment to be completed, the couple decided to register their marriage directly at the medical facility. This event became an example of mutual support, loyalty, and responsibility, which remain important values even in the most difficult times.
The staff of the O.O. Shalimov National Scientific Center for Surgery and Transplantology joined in organizing the event and expressed their sincere wishes to the young couple for strength, mutual understanding, and a shared future.
