What is modern free rehabilitation? How are rehabilitation services provided under the Medical Guarantees Program, and where do you start to get them?
We answer these and other questions
What is rehabilitation?
It is a set of measures to help a person return to an active life after an injury, trauma, surgery, or serious illness (stroke, heart attack, etc.).
This includes movement, speech, daily activities, psychological state, and the ability to be as independent as possible.
How does rehabilitation differ from treatment?
Treatment stabilizes the condition and saves lives. Rehabilitation helps a person return to an active life.
It involves working to restore motor activity and independence, as well as emotional well-being.
What are the different types of rehabilitation?
The medical guarantee program provides for two types of rehabilitation.
Inpatient (Package "Rehabilitation assistance for adults and children in inpatient settings"):
- High intensity: at least 3 hours of rehabilitation interventions per day.
- Course duration: from 14 to 21 calendar days.
- The medical facility provides accommodation, meals, and necessary medications.
Outpatient (Package "Rehabilitation assistance for adults and children in outpatient settings"):
- At least 1 hour of rehabilitation interventions per day.
- The patient comes to the medical facility according to the schedule.
- Suitable for conditions that do not require round-the-clock supervision.
- The format is determined individually and according to the patient's condition and needs.
How long can rehabilitation last for a patient?
In complex cases — up to 112 days. For example, after severe injuries or multiple amputations.
In cases of multiple amputations, the number of rehabilitation courses can reach up to 26 cycles per year.
Who works with patients?
A multidisciplinary team is involved in the patient's recovery: a physical and rehabilitation medicine doctor, physical and occupational therapists, a speech and language therapist, a psychologist, nurses, and other medical professionals.
What are the principles of rehabilitation?
Rehabilitation guaranteed by the state:
- free of charge for the patient (no charitable contributions or purchase of consumables);
- evidence-based (only methods proven effective by international standards are used);
- timely (rehabilitation begins in the acute period: in intensive care or a specialized department, immediately after stabilization).
How to get rehabilitation?
You must have an electronic referral. For outpatient rehabilitation, it is issued by a family doctor or any attending physician. For inpatient rehabilitation, it is issued by the attending physician of the hospital or a specialist.
