As part of the regional cultural and artistic project ‘Embroidered Donetsk Region’, the creative process of photographing vyshyvankas from the region’s local communities has begun. The forthcoming photo album aims to preserve and promote unique examples of traditional Donetsk Region embroidery, which is an important part of the region’s cultural heritage.

The publication will feature photographs of embroidered shirts that highlight the distinctive features of the patterns, colour schemes and local embroidery traditions. Each item bears witness to the communities’ unique character and preserves the historical memory of generations.

The photo shoot will take place over three days. Work is currently in full swing on the creation of the photo album: preparations are underway for the photo shoots, organising the sessions and capturing unique examples of embroidery representing the communities of the Donetsk region.

A team of specialists from the Donetsk Regional Educational and Methodological Centre for Culture and the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Donetsk Regional State Administration is working on the creation of the photo album. The creative process involves professionals in the fields of photography and make-up, as well as models – representatives of local communities in the Donetsk region – who are showcasing the embroidered shirts of their localities. Work on the project is proceeding at a fast-paced yet inspired pace, as each photograph must convey the unique character and cultural identity of the community.

The photo album ‘Embroidered Donetsk Region’ will be another step towards preserving the region’s cultural heritage and promoting the traditions of Ukrainian embroidery to a wider audience.
