Yulia Kashik—acting medical director and head of the non-surgical inpatient department at the Pokrovsk Clinical Hospital for Intensive Care—whose 22-year career has been inextricably linked to her hometown.

A top-tier internist, nephrologist, and specialist in ultrasound diagnostics, she has become a symbol of true dedication to medicine for the entire region. In 2024, for her exceptional contributions, Yulia Kashyk was awarded the “Order of St. Panteleimon” in the category of selfless service to the Ukrainian people, courage, and resilience in the fight for the health of Ukrainians, and for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.

Her professional achievements span the most complex challenges of our time. During the pandemic, she led a 130-bed COVID-19 hospital, where she implemented her own effective treatment protocol, resulting in one of the lowest mortality rates in the country.

Amid a full-scale war, the doctor oversees the triage of the wounded in the “Green Zone” during mass influxes of casualties from shelling.

As the only nephrologist in the Pokrovsk district, she ensured that approximately 500 hemodialysis procedures were performed each month, provided palliative care, and worked in mobile medical teams in frontline communities.

Yulia Kashik is a leader who is always the first to step forward to save lives, combining professional rigor with boundless compassion. The Donetsk region is truly proud of its medical professionals, who are holding the medical front during the most difficult times.
