As part of the Agricultural Support Program for Ukraine, funded by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, Mercy Corps is launching a new component aimed at supporting women farmers.
The program is being implemented in the territories of: Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions.
Support for women farmers includes:
1) An educational program in two areas:
- development and enhancement of entrepreneurial skills depending on the previous experience of participants;
- specialized agricultural training in one of the following areas: vegetable growing, berry farming, horticulture, beekeeping, poultry farming, cattle breeding, pig farming, rabbit breeding, sheep farming, goat farming, etc.
2) Participants who successfully complete the training will have the opportunity to take part in trips to advanced farming enterprises.
3) The possibility to receive financial assistance on a competitive basis ranging from $3,000 to $7,000 to start or develop their own business.
Who can participate?
Local residents and internally displaced persons (IDPs) who:
- head a household or operate an existing agribusiness with experience in agriculture, or wish to start entrepreneurial activities in the agricultural production sector without prior experience;
- are engaged in or plan agricultural activities on a land plot of no more than 150 hectares.
The program is being implemented in collaboration with partner organizations:
The Public Organization "Eastern Ukrainian Agricultural Advisory Service" (Donetsk and Poltava regions); NGO "Eastern Ukrainian Agricultural Advisory Service";
The Public Organization "Council of Women Farmers" (Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad regions);
The Charitable Organization "Charitable Foundation 'LASKA'" (Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Odesa regions);
The Agricultural Cooperative "Zernovyi" (Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions).
