The Department of Family, Youth, and Public Events for National-Patriotic Education of the Regional State Administration, in collaboration with the “Center for Unity and National Resistance” platform, organized a regional online first aid seminar. The event was dedicated to the anniversary of the founding of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
The seminar brought together young activists, government officials, and representatives of the humanitarian sector to discuss the important topic of fostering a culture of safety.
Oleksandr Shevchenko, Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, addressed the participants and emphasized that for the Donetsk region, the Red Cross has become a symbol of reliable support and humanism, and the ability to provide timely assistance is an essential trait of a conscientious citizen in today’s world.
Serhiy Zhizhkin, Executive Director of the Executive Committee of the Donetsk Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, noted the team’s readiness to train young people to be strong, useful, and effective participants in civil protection, which is critically important for a frontline region.
The seminar focused primarily on practicing practical skills that may be needed in real emergency situations. Participants worked with readily available materials, learning to quickly assess the situation and make decisions under conditions of limited resources.
In particular, they learned how to stop bleeding using items of clothing, practiced compression techniques using water-filled plastic bottles for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protocols for wounds containing foreign objects using markers for simulation, and positioning the victim in a recovery position on mats or blankets during stabilization.
The hands-on format allowed for the simulation of situations as close as possible to real-life emergencies that anyone might encounter. This approach helped participants not only master theoretical knowledge but also develop a clear understanding of the sequence of actions, as well as build confidence and readiness to act without delay.
