Artem Garbar, a participant in the regional “Young Person of the Year – 2026” competition in the “Leaders of Knowledge” category
Artem Garbar is a Merited Master of Sports of Ukraine in taekwondo (WTF), whose name has already been etched into the history of Ukrainian sports. He began his journey on the tatami at the age of three under his father’s guidance. His move in 2012 from the Luhansk region to Druzhkivka marked a new stage in his development, where Artem and his brother trained at the Children’s and Youth Sports School under the guidance of Yuriy Biryukov, an Honored Coach of Ukraine.
Despite the challenges and a change of residence in 2022, the athlete remains loyal to his native region, continuing to represent the Druzhkivka community and the Donetsk Oblast School of Higher Sports Excellence.
Today, the 23-year-old athlete has an impressive collection of awards: bronze medals from the 2024 and 2026 European Championships, a gold medal from the 2025 World University Games, and a historic bronze medal from the World Championships in China. Artem became the first man in the history of Ukrainian taekwondo to win a medal at the World Championships.
A multiple recipient of the “Best Athlete of Donetsk Oblast” award and a scholarship recipient from the President of Ukraine and the regional administration, in 2026 he was awarded the highest sporting title—“Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine.” Today, this outstanding native of the region is a candidate to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, confidently striving for new heights and inspiring young people with his dedication to the sport.
