Participant in the regional “Young Person of the Year – 2026” competition “Power of Management Decisions” category: Kateryna Shapovalova
In early 2025, Kateryna Shapovalova changed her career path: after more than twelve years working in the library sector, she moved to the Velykonovosilky Settlement Military Administration. Her experience in the cultural sector—particularly in coordinating international projects and information campaigns—helped her quickly adapt to her new role.
Kateryna is now responsible for communication between the administration and community residents, most of whom have been evacuated to other regions of Ukraine due to the war. Through the official website and social media, she keeps people informed about social programs, humanitarian aid, government services, and educational events.
Youth policy is a key focus of her work. In 2024, Kateryna served on the Youth Council under the Donetsk Regional State Administration. After her term ended, she initiated the creation of a Youth Council within the Velykonovosilkovska community to involve young residents in decision-making processes and support their projects.
Kateryna continuously improves her professional skills by attending strategic sessions and training workshops on advocacy and effective governance. She immediately applies the knowledge she gains to improve communication with the community. She considers openness, timely information, and accountability to the people to be the guiding principles of her work.
