Serhiy Mishchenko, a participant in the regional “Young Person of the Year – 2026” competition in the “Knowledge Leaders” category
Serhiy Mishchenko dreamed of becoming a teacher from childhood. Even during his school years, he would hold impromptu lessons for his friends, and later consciously chose a career in education. After working as a librarian, he earned a degree in education and became a computer science teacher; since 2021, he has served as the assistant principal for academic and student affairs and as a computer science teacher.
As an educator, he actively incorporates modern digital technologies, STEM education, elements of artificial intelligence, 3D modeling, programming, and project-based learning to create an interactive educational environment. He also promotes digital literacy in the community by teaching older adults how to use modern technologies free of charge.
After losing his own home as a result of Russian shelling, Serhii did not stop teaching and continued to support his students remotely. In 2026, he joined the “School of Superheroes” team at the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital, where he helps children undergoing treatment stay motivated to learn.
His professional achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Honorary Award of the People’s Movement of Ukraine, the “For Dedication to Teaching” medal, a finalist certificate from the All-Ukrainian “Teacher of the Year – 2025” competition, as well as awards for advancing STEM education and national-patriotic education.
Serhiy Mishchenko is convinced that a modern teacher should not only impart knowledge but also inspire children to believe in themselves, be open to change, and confidently build Ukraine’s future.
