The Mykolaiv community has announced the results of the “Petals of Memory” poetry contest, dedicated to the memory of local resident Alisa Moroz, a courageous defender of Mariupol, a junior sergeant in the Azov Regiment of the 109th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, and a combat veteran since 2018.
Partner communities joined the competition as part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities”: the Fastiv City Community in Kyiv Oblast, the Chyhyryn City Community, and the Stepanets Rural Community in Cherkasy Oblast.
Alisa Moroz’s life has become a symbol of resilience, love for Ukraine, and self-sacrifice for the freedom of her homeland. The memory of Alisa lives on in the hearts of the residents of the Mykilsk community and her friends, inspiring each of us to be strong, dignified, and devoted to our country.
The contest was initiated by employees of the “Nikolsk Public Library” with the support of the Mykilsk Town Military Administration and Alisa Moroz’s parents.
Twenty amateur poets from the Mykilsk, Chyhyryn, Fastiv, and Stepanets territorial communities submitted their works to the contest. Among the participants were educators, young people, and community members who used the power of poetry to express their pain, gratitude, remembrance, and love for Ukraine.
The aim of the contest was to honor the memory of Alisa Moroz through the power of poetry, to support talented young amateur authors, and to promote the art of poetry. The spiritual significance of the event was also of particular importance—fostering patriotic values, upholding the ideals of freedom, human dignity, and sincere love for the Motherland.
The participants’ works were evaluated by a jury comprising representatives of the cultural community, educators, public figures, and the parents of the fallen heroine.
The competition was held in four categories, with winners selected in each:
- “Memory and Heroism” – Tetiana Bershakova;
- “Love for the Native Land” – Valentina Ushmodina;
- “War Through the Eyes of Youth” – war veteran Serhiy Yarovyi.
- In the “Light of Alisa” category, the winner was selected by Alisa’s parents; Lina Bershatska from the Chyhyryn community was named the winner.
