The Mykilsk Town Community in Donetsk Oblast and the Khust City Community in Zakarpattia Oblast have become partners as part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities.”
On September 9, 2026, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two communities was signed by Volodymyr Khalabuzar, head of the Mykolaivka settlement military administration, and Vasyl Hubal, acting mayor of Khust.
For the Mykolaivka community, which is currently under temporary occupation, this partnership holds special significance.
Because a community is more than just a territory. It is the people, their families, their memories, traditions, education, culture, shared dreams, and the right to a future. And even when their hometowns and villages remain behind the occupation line, the community continues to live, work, and fight for its future.
That is precisely why this friendly meeting and the signing of the memorandum are much more than a formal affirmation of intentions. It is a partnership between Donetsk Oblast and Zakarpattia. Between communities separated by hundreds of kilometers but united by a single Ukraine.
For the Mykolaiv community, this outstretched hand of partnership represents a sense of support, an opportunity to develop new initiatives, help people, and maintain the community’s living connection with Ukraine.
The memorandum provides for cooperation in humanitarian, social, medical, educational, and other areas. Key areas of focus will include support for children and youth, veterans and their families, volunteer initiatives, the implementation of joint projects, and the exchange of expertise.
