On July 24–25, the Donetsk Regional Art Museum held an art residency titled “Ukrainian Identity Through the Lens of Various Art Forms” at the regional children and youth health resort “Perlyna Donetchyny” (“The Pearl of Donetsk Region”).

The project aimed to promote Ukraine’s cultural heritage, deepen knowledge of traditional folk art, and bring children together through creativity.

Participants engaged in thematic discussions and hands-on workshops in three areas of Ukrainian decorative art:

Block printing – creating eco-bags with traditional Ukrainian ornamentation;

Cross-stitch embroidery – exploring the eight-pointed star motif, a traditional embroidery symbol in Donetsk region;

Tapestry embroidery – crafting decorative artworks using a tapestry technique.

During these interactive sessions, the children not only learned the basics of the techniques but also discovered the deep meanings behind Ukrainian symbols, colors, and ornamental patterns. Special attention was given to the cultural code of Donetsk region as an integral part of Ukrainian identity.

Such artistic events highlight the power of culture — art as a space of unity and healing, a testament to how Ukrainian tradition inspires and how creativity brings people together, even in the most difficult times.
