Donetsk region emphasizes cooperation between farmers and beekeepers to protect bees

Published 02 March 2026 year, 11:00

Currently, 220 beekeepers continue to operate in the Donetsk region, keeping up to 5,000 bee colonies.

It is important to organize the most effective communication between agricultural producers and beekeepers to ensure the production of all types of agricultural products.

✅ For farmers:

🔹 Do not use counterfeit pesticides and agrochemicals and comply with all regulations on the use of plant protection products, taking into account their degree of danger to bees.

🔹 Notify local authorities three days in advance of the planned use of plant protection products and have a permit (certificate) for the right to use pesticides and agrochemicals;

🔹 All work with plant protection products should be carried out in the evening and morning hours when bees are not flying, with minimal upward air currents and wind speeds of up to 4 m/s.

✅ For beekeepers:

🔸 Register your apiary and obtain a veterinary and sanitary passport for your apiary. If you are notified that fields will be treated with plant protection products, isolate the bees in their hives or move the apiary to a safe place.

🔸 Inform local authorities about the transportation (migration) of the apiary. If such transportation occurs during curfew hours, be sure to coordinate your actions with the military administration and police.

🔸 Notify local authorities of: the planned location of the apiary; the time and date of planned arrival and departure; the number of bee colonies during the transportation (migration) of the apiary; your contact information (phone number, email address).

Every year, by March 1, local authorities update the composition of the permanent commission for establishing the fact of bee poisoning, which includes representatives of the State Food and Consumer Service, local authorities, and the National Police. register apiaries and maintain an Apiary Register, in which data is updated annually based on the results of the spring medical examination of bee colonies, which is carried out by May 15 each year.
