The "Chernobyl: No Right to Forget" Memorial Marathon Kicks Off in Donetsk Oblast

From April 6 to 24, 2026, the Donetsk Youth Palace “Yunist” will host the “Chernobyl: No Right to Forget” Remembrance Marathon in a virtual format, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

The event aims to preserve historical memory, honor the heroic deeds of the liquidators, and foster a responsible attitude toward environmental and technological safety among young people through creative forms of remote participation.

Students and educators from general secondary, extracurricular, vocational, pre-higher, and higher education institutions are invited to participate.

Marathon Categories:

- “Dedication to the Heroes” – recitation of poetry accompanied by video footage (documentary footage, archival footage, images of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone);

- “Chernobyl Palette” – artworks (drawings) reflecting on the ecological consequences of the disaster, life, and nature in the Exclusion Zone;

- “Safety Technologies” – photographs created using artificial intelligence technologies, dedicated to engineering solutions, nuclear safety, and environmental sustainability.

Age categories:

  • Category I – 12–14 years old;
  • Category II – 15–17 years old;
  • Category III – 18 years and older;
  • Category IV – “Teachers.”

To participate, please submit your application and contest entry marked “Chernobyl” to the Palace’s email address [email protected] by April 17, 2026 (inclusive). A separate application must be attached to each entry.

Anyone is welcome to participate.

The marathon gives participants the opportunity to express their creativity, reflect on the lessons of history, and show respect for the heroic deeds of those who sacrificed their lives and health to protect our country’s future, keeping the memory of Chernobyl alive and relevant for future generations.
