Evacuation of civilians in Donetsk region increases

Published 20 August 2025 year, 17:02

As the security situation deteriorates, the pace of evacuation of civilians from the Donetsk region is accelerating. Currently, 225,000 people, including 17,168 children, remain in the government-controlled area of Donetsk.

The progress of the evacuation in Donetsk Oblast was discussed during a traditional briefing at the regional state administration with representatives of the Children's Service and the Department of Social Protection.

Over the three weeks of this month, 1350 children have been evacuated from the settlements where forced evacuation of families with children was announced. In the last week, from August 13 to 20, 894 of these children were evacuated.

This was reported by Yulia Ryzhakova, Head of the Service for Children. Since the beginning of the month, 63 children have been evacuated from Lyman community, 50 children from Kryvyi Rih, 512 children from Dobropolye, 615 children from Bilozersk, 93 children from Druzhkivka, and 17 children from Andriivka.

The forced evacuation of families with children continues in 16 settlements of six communities. There are still 2424 children living there. There are 49 children in the Lyman community, 150 in Dobropolye, 2 in Kryvyi Rih, 3 in Andriivka, 456 in Bilozersk, and 1764 in Druzhkivka.

The number of minors in the area of active hostilities is gradually decreasing, with 49 children living in the settlements of the Lyman community in this zone and 5 children in the Toretsk community.

As the pace of evacuation increases, the number of people in need of resettlement increases, and they are provided with free accommodation. This was reported by Dmitry Pozharsky, Head of the Social Services Division of the Department of Social Protection.

Over the past week, 215 people from Donetsk Oblast were accommodated free of charge, including 56 children and 53 people with limited mobility. Today, 20 single people with limited mobility will go to geriatric nursing homes in Kyiv Oblast.

Due to the intensified shelling, the number of single people with limited mobility who are willing to be evacuated is increasing significantly, and places for them to be resettled are being found.

The number of people passing through the transit point in Pavlohrad has also increased. Not only residents of Donetsk region, but also people from Dnipropetrovska and even Zaporizka regions who are evacuating from the dangerous area are being received here.

The maximum load of the transit point was up to 400 people per day.  Earlier in the day, 50 to 100 people passed through the transit point. The transit point itself is designed to accommodate up to one hundred people overnight, so we had to quickly decide where to put those who were taken out of the shelling in the evening and brought to Pavlohrad. These people were accommodated for the night in the Dnipro river shelters.

Another transit point was opened in Lozova to relieve the pressure on the Pavlohrad transit point and to make it more convenient for residents of the northern part of Donetsk Oblast. On the first day of operation, 98 people passed through it.
