210 thousand people remain living in Donetsk region

Published 17 September 2025 year, 16:45

There are still 210,000 civilians living in the government-controlled areas of Donetsk region. Over the past month, 4,000 people have left the region on their own or have been evacuated.

The evacuation in Donetsk Oblast was discussed during a traditional briefing at the regional state administration with the participation of representatives of the Department for Civil Protection, Mobilization and Defense, the Children's Service and the Department of Social Protection.

There are 17,900 people, including 8 children, still living in the 20 territorial communities recognized as the area of active hostilities. This was reported by Dmytro Petlin, head of the department of operational and emergency service, communication, warning and informing the population of the department for civil protection, mobilization and defense work.

A total of 15,211 children remain in the Donetsk region. According to Yulia Ryzhakova, head of the children's service, there are currently 1,603 children in six settlements where forced evacuation of families with children has been announced. The largest number of minors is in Druzhkivka, where 1,582 children are staying.

There are 13 children in Kryvyi Rih community, 7 children in Dobropillya, and 1 child in Lozove village of Lyman community.

Over the past week, 156 children have been evacuated from the settlements where the forced evacuation of families with children continues. 8 children were evacuated from the Lyman community, 9 children from Dobropillya, 8 children from Kryvyi Rih, 5 children from Bilozerske and 126 children from Druzhkivka.

Free resettlement of Donetsk residents evacuated to safer regions of Ukraine continues. Over the past week, 110 people have been resettled, including 32 people with limited mobility and disabilities, as well as 7 children.

This was reported by Dmytro Pozharsky, head of the social services division of the Department of Social Protection.

Today, by the end of the day, there will be four evacuation trains, two of them to Lviv region, one to Odesa and one to Rivne region. 10 evacuees from Donetsk will be sent to Rivne region for free accommodation.

Since the beginning of the year, 2,418 residents of Donetsk Oblast have been resettled free of charge, including 400 children and 614 people with reduced mobility. Free accommodation is provided to all those who need it and ask for help, said Dmitry Pozharsky.

Single people with limited mobility who are being cared for by social workers categorically refuse to be evacuated. Currently, 1,364 such people live in Donetsk region. Only 359 of them are considering evacuating if the situation escalates further. During the horrific attack in Yarova, 2 social workers of the Liman Tercentre came under fire. One of them was killed and the other was injured.

The security component is among the most important in providing social services to single people. Social workers visit their clients to the last, persuading them to evacuate every day. When the security situation does not allow them to reach such people, law enforcement agencies and military administrations are involved to deliver humanitarian aid to single people. Risking their lives, volunteers, representatives of the State Emergency Service, and the police continue to persuade people to agree to evacuate.
