Second Lieutenant Oleksandr Kharytonov, call sign “NOMAD,” was killed on June 1, 2024, in the city of Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, as a result of a direct hit by an enemy drone. He was forever 22 years old.
Oleksandr was born in the city of Sloviansk. He graduated from Secondary School No. 8. His teachers remember him as an outstanding student and winner of numerous academic competitions, while his friends recall him as a loyal companion, cheerful, dependable, and full of plans and love for life.
After finishing school, Oleksandr enrolled in the Military Law Institute of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University. He later worked for the State Bureau of Investigation.
The full-scale invasion found him in Kharkiv, where he was completing his fourth year at university. Without hesitation, he joined the defense of the city alongside his fellow cadets, becoming part of the local Territorial Defense Forces. Later, he joined the ranks of the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade.
He served as a platoon commander and as a planning officer in the Air Assault Battalion of Military Unit A2582.
Posthumously, Officer Oleksandr Kharytonov was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, Third Class.
The defender was laid to rest in his hometown of Sloviansk.
Oleksandr is survived by his mother. He was her only son.
