In July of this year, as part of an educational project under the memorandum of cooperation between the Bakhmut City Council and the Saldus Municipality (Latvia), students from the Bakhmut City Territorial Community took part in an international summer health and cultural camp program.

The aim of this initiative was not only to provide rest and psychological recovery for Ukrainian children but also to give them an opportunity to engage with the European cultural space and feel comprehensive support during these challenging times.

The camp program was rich and diverse. Participants had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with Latvia’s vibrant culture, its traditions and modern life, make new friends among their peers, and feel warmth and support — something especially vital for every Ukrainian child today.

The children visited the capital city of Riga, the picturesque town of Ventspils, the majestic Rundāle Palace, the magical Tērvete Nature Park, as well as several educational and cultural institutions in Saldus. A particularly memorable event was their participation in the XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival.

The “Neposydy” Dance Theater from Bakhmut General Secondary School No. 18 named after Dmytro Cherniavskyi of the Bakhmut City Council in Donetsk Oblast, together with its leader Olha Viesko, represented Donetsk region with dignity during the festive parade, showcasing a high level of talent and the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian youth.

An integral part of the camp included outdoor activities, relaxation by Lake Ciecere, fascinating excursions, creative workshops, sports games, and heartfelt evenings of unity.

Especially moving were the meetings with representatives of the Saldus Municipality, educators, cultural figures, and local residents. Their sincerity, hospitality, and understanding left a deep and lasting impression on the children and their accompanying adults.
