Halyna Vasylchenko is a participant of the regional contest "Woman of Donetsk Region" in 2025, nomination "Heart in Armor"
Halyna Vasylchenko was born in Velyka Novosilka and lived most of her life in Blahodatne. She has devoted her entire life to caring for people: she worked as a nurse in a home for children with disabilities and for 14 years in a nursing home for the elderly.
In 2017, she signed a contract with the Armed Forces. It was unexpected for many people, but for Halyna it was a natural step.
On February 24, 2022, the war caught her on duty. Together with her colleagues, she saved people, helped military units, shared medicines, food, and even fuel. The family was evacuated only in March, and Halyna remained on duty.
Today, she is the head of a medical unit of a mechanized battalion of the 23rd Brigade. There are always wounded here, and her team - mostly women - treats, supports and is just there for them. "The greatest happiness is when a fighter who was unconscious yesterday is already joking today," she says.
She has received many awards and honors for her service. But the most valuable to her are not medals, but the lives she has saved.
Despite the war, Halyna is studying for a master's degree in psychology because she is convinced that it is necessary to treat not only the body but also the soul.
Her photographs were included in the international exhibition "Ukrainian Women through the Lens of Oksana Chorna" in Poland. For the world, she has become a symbol of strength and indomitability, and for her comrades-in-arms, a "Witch" who works miracles in the most difficult conditions.
Halyna Vasylchenko is a woman from Donetsk Oblast who proves every day that even in armor, the heart can remain kind and loving.
