Yulia Goroshanska is a participant of the regional contest "Woman of Donetsk Region" in 2025, nomination "Heart in Armor"
Yulia Goroshanska is a native of Mariupol. She is a practical psychologist by profession and worked in her field until 2014. Yulia is a master of sports in powerlifting, a multiple champion of Ukraine and Europe.
In September 2014, she voluntarily joined the Mariupol detachment to defend her hometown. She served in reconnaissance, infantry, and artillery in the Mariupol sector and near Maryinka. She started out as a machine gunner and commander of a machine gun squad. After completing officer training courses, she was appointed commander of a reconnaissance platoon, company, and chief of intelligence.
On the front line, she met her future husband. After the marriage, she gave birth to a child and went on maternity leave, during which she saw the beginning of a full-scale invasion.
On February 24, 2022, she volunteered for service, but the next day her unit evacuated, and Yulia remained in the defense of Mariupol.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, she stood at a checkpoint, then participated in street battles for the city.
In April, Yulia was severely injured in an enemy air strike and evacuated to a hospital at Azovstal. From there, she was taken prisoner in May under orders. She was held captive for 4.5 months.
After her capture, she resigned from the service, but later returned to the Mariupol brigade.
Currently, Yulia has been trained in the US Peer Support Certification Program to help war veterans overcome crisis situations. "Peer to Peer is a pioneering standard of mental health support for people with combat and traumatic war experience.
