Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with NATO Senior Representative in Ukraine Patrick Turner.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current agenda of Ukraine-NATO cooperation, as well as preparations for the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha in NATO ministerial-level events, to be held on May 21–22, 2026, in Helsingborg, Kingdom of Sweden.
The sides paid special attention to the preparations for the NATO Summit to be held in July 2026 in Ankara, Republic of Türkiye. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the issue of supporting Ukraine in countering the armed aggression of the Russian Federation must remain one of the key priorities and central themes of the event, given its critical importance for European and Euro-Atlantic security.
The parties also discussed the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of the uninterrupted functioning of the PURL initiative, through which Ukraine receives U.S.-manufactured weaponry, in particular missiles for Patriot systems, and underscored the necessity of proper funding for this initiative by NATO member states and partner countries.
For his part, NATO Senior Representative Patrick Turner strongly condemned the latest massive strike by the Russian Federation on Kyiv, which resulted in numerous civilian casualties and significant destruction of civilian infrastructure. He reaffirmed that strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities remains one of the Alliance's key priorities, and assured of NATO's unwavering and comprehensive support for Ukraine.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue coordinating joint efforts in the context of preparing for future Ukraine-NATO events.
