As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” a warm and meaningful online event titled “The Nation’s Code: Patterns of the East and West” was held in celebration of Vyshyvanka Day, bringing together educators from the Soledar and Drohobych communities. The event became a true celebration of Ukrainian culture, traditions, and unity.
The interactive segment “Embroidered Characteristics of Each Region” generated particular interest. Participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge of the regional characteristics of Ukrainian embroidery by identifying regions based on descriptions of patterns, colors, and techniques. Educators actively participated in the discussion, demonstrating a deep understanding of folk art.
The segment “The Vyshyvanka as a Talisman” proved to be particularly informative, during which participants learned about the distinctive features of embroidery from the Lviv and Donetsk regions. Representatives of the Drohobych community presented the vibrant traditions of Lviv embroidery, rich in colors and intricate patterns. Educators from the Soledar community prepared a presentation on the symbolism and uniqueness of Donetsk region embroidery, which is distinguished by its restraint, depth, and combination of various cultural motifs.
The song “Ukrainian Vyshyvanka,” performed by the “Namysto” vocal ensemble of teachers from Lesya Ukrainka Lyceum No. 4 of the Drohobych City Council, and the video “Vyshyvanka Unites,” in which educators from the Soledar community showcased their vyshyvankas as a symbol of the indomitable spirit, spiritual strength, and unity of the Ukrainian people.
The meeting concluded with the segment “Thread of Unity,” during which everyone had the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings following the event. Words of gratitude, support, pride, and inspiration became a true pattern of unity that brought together the east and west of Ukraine.
