Every year on January 29, Ukraine honors the memory of the Heroes of Kruty – a hundred students who stood up to the superior Russian forces in 1918 and became an example of courage and sacrifice. More than a hundred years have passed, and a new generation of defenders is protecting Ukraine from the same enemy.
Today, Donetsk region police officers, side by side with the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are performing the most difficult tasks on the front lines and stopping the enemy's advance – sometimes, unfortunately, at the cost of their own lives.
State and departmental awards were presented to the defenders by Yaroslav Mezhennij, acting head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk region.
For their courage and impeccable service to the Ukrainian people, law enforcement officers of Donetsk region received awards from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Silver Cross" and "Golden Cross", the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Unity Wins", the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine's "For Contribution to Defense," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine's "For Courage in Service," as well as the National Police, the Donetsk Regional State Administration, the Luhansk Operational-Tactical Group, and the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk Oblast.
