Accessibility means being able to participate in cultural life on an equal footing with others.

As part of the All-Ukrainian Accessibility Week, specialists from the Donetsk Regional Educational and Methodological Centre for Culture, in collaboration with representatives of the state rehabilitation institution ‘Donbas-Prykarpattia’ Centre for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for People with Disabilities, held a creative workshop in Ivano-Frankivsk as part of a series of interactive sessions entitled ‘The Code of Traditions from East to West’.

The initiative aimed to broaden access to traditional Ukrainian culture through assistive devices and support methods that promote equal opportunities, creative self-expression and cultural integration for people with disabilities.

During the creative session, participants learnt about the traditional fabric-decorating technique known as ‘vibiyka’ and created their own unique shopping bags featuring authentic patterns. Such practices not only promote folk art but also help to preserve Ukraine’s cultural heritage by integrating it into modern everyday life. Through hands-on mastery of ancient crafts, participants felt a living connection between generations and touched upon the deeper meanings of Ukrainian tradition.

Holding such events in an atmosphere of tolerant communication is a vital component in creating a barrier-free cultural environment, where everyone has the opportunity to engage in creativity, learning, and the preservation of national and local heritage. The organisers thank all participants for their active involvement, genuine interest, and creative inspiration.

Let us create a barrier-free space for the development and exploration of traditional art together.
