On May 15, to mark the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression, representatives of the Regional State Administration’s Department of Veterans’ Affairs, together with representatives of the Mariupol and Volnovakha District State Administrations, took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial to the Victims of the Holodomor and Political Repression in the city of Dnipro.
The ceremony participants honored the memory of millions of Ukrainians who fell victim to political persecution, totalitarian regimes, repression, deportations, and man-made famines.
Those present bowed their heads in a moment of silence and laid flowers at the memorial as a symbol of respect, mourning, and remembrance of the tragic chapters in the history of the Ukrainian people.
The Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving historical truth, upholding democratic values, and preventing the recurrence of crimes against humanity. Today, more than ever, Ukrainians realize the value of freedom, dignity, and the right to their own statehood.
We remember everyone who suffered under the repressive system and honor the strength of spirit of those who endured trials for the sake of Ukraine’s future.
