The Veteran Sports Program: Sometimes the hardest thing in sports is to get started

Published 09 January 2026 year, 13:33

The Veteran Sports program helps veterans overcome this barrier right from the start.

Every quarter, they receive 1,500 UAH for sports and other physical and health activities that restore not only the body but also inner balance.

Registration is open from January 1 to 20 inclusive, according to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.

Do you have questions about participation, deadlines, and use of funds? We answer the most common ones

📌 When to submit an application?

From January 1 to 20 inclusive.

If you used the funds in the fourth quarter of 2025, you do not need to submit an application. The funds will be transferred automatically.

📌 Who can participate?

Veterans and combatants with disabilities aged 18 and older, provided that their data is entered in the Unified State Register of War Veterans (USRWV).

📌 When should the funds be used?

By the end of the quarter in which they were accrued.

📌 What happens if the funds are not used?

If you have not spent any funds, they will be returned to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, and your participation in the program will be terminated. To receive payments again, you will need to submit a new application.

If you have used some of the funds, the unused balance will be returned to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, but your participation in the program will continue, and you will receive a new payment in the next quarter.

📌 How to enter data into the register?

Information about veteran status is compiled by authorized bodies and commissions formed within military authorities. They make decisions on granting status and officially transfer the data to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs for entry into the register of veterans. The Ministry of Veterans Affairs enters information into the register solely on the basis of official data received from such authorities.

📌 What to do if you need to update or correct data in the veterans' register:

1. Contact the authority that granted the status or issued the veteran's certificate.

For UBD status, this may be a commission formed within the military administration, a military unit, or another authorized body. For OIVV status, you need to contact the local structural units for veteran policy of the district state administrations (at the place of registration or actual residence).

The current list of commissions can be found at the link:  https://turbota.mil.gov.ua/posvidchennya-uchasnyka-bojovyh-dij/poryadok-otrymannya-posvidchennya-ubd

2. Submit an official request or report asking for changes.

For example, a report to the commander of a military unit or an application to the commission.

3. After that, the commissions transfer the updated or corrected data to the veterans' registry. We are also working on a technical solution that will allow authorized bodies to update data directly in the registry. This solution will be launched in 2026.

📌 Where can the assistance be spent?

At sports facilities that operate officially and under MCC codes 7941 or MCC 7997.

List of such facilities:  https://mva.gov.ua/veteranam/

The list is constantly updated, so if your institution is not on the list, check with the administration for the MCC code.

📌 What to do if your veteran ID is not displayed in Diya?

The most common reason is the absence of a photo in the registers.

If your data is in the USR, you can still submit an application through Diia.

We invite veterans to take advantage of this opportunity, and sports facilities to join the program and become part of the recovery of our Defenders.

The project was implemented by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine in accordance with the Veterans Policy Strategy and the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment in Ukraine, developed on the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska.
