Ruslan Cherkashyn: Through Barriers and War — Toward a New Goal

Published 01 June 2026 year, 14:55

"Every day I see the results of my work, and that gives me the strength to move forward" — the story of Ruslan Cherkashyn.

As part of National Accessibility Week, we are sharing the story of a young man whose example proves that the desire to work and be useful can overcome any distance and life challenge.

Ruslan Cherkashyn is originally from Dobropillia. Because of the war, he had to relocate to Cherkasy and start his life from scratch.

Ruslan has had a disability since childhood. He previously trained as a tiler and plasterer and successfully worked for LLC “ATB-Market,” taking great pride in his work and financial independence. However, in his new circumstances, finding a job that fully accommodated his health condition proved challenging.

In February, Ruslan turned to the Employment Service for assistance. That became the starting point for a successful new chapter in his life.

Together with a career counselor, Ruslan confidently completed every step toward new employment:

• Created a modern, professional résumé.

• Participated in mental health training sessions, which were especially important for adaptation.

• Acquired new skills through digital literacy courses.

• Practiced successful job interview techniques.

The results came quickly. Employment Service specialists found a vacancy that perfectly matched his abilities. For the past month, Ruslan has been working as a landscaping worker at the Municipal Enterprise “Parks Directorate” in the city of Cherkasy.

Today, he helps make his new city cleaner and more beautiful, works in a friendly team, and feels like a valued and important member of society.

The Donetsk Employment Service continues to work to ensure that every Ukrainian, regardless of life circumstances or health condition, can find their calling and confidence in the future. Contact our specialists — we are always ready to help.
