Six soldiers evaded military service during the construction of fortifications in Donetsk region. The case was referred to court.

Countering crimes in the field of mobilization committed by military personnel and officials under investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is one of the Bureau's priorities under martial law.

With the assistance of the USR in Donetsk Oblast, SBI employees completed a pre-trial investigation into six military personnel from the engineering unit of one of the military units stationed in Donetsk Oblast.

The indictments were sent to court.

Investigators established that between June 2023 and March 2024, the military personnel systematically evaded their duties. According to combat orders, they were supposed to carry out fortification work on defensive lines in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region, but in fact they were outside the area of their duties, mostly staying at home.

At the same time, they submitted knowingly false information to the military unit's command about their alleged presence on a mission in the combat zone. On the basis of these documents, the servicemen were unjustifiably charged and paid monetary allowances, in particular the so-called "combat" payments.

As a result of these actions, the state suffered losses amounting to almost UAH 1 million, and the combat readiness of the unit in the relevant section of the front was significantly undermined.

The servicemen are charged under Part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — evasion of military service duties, as well as under Part 1 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — fraud.

The sanctions of these articles provide for up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The indictment against the commander of the servicemen was sent to court earlier under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or official position).

The proceedings are being conducted by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Eastern Region.
