Shevchenko's words in the ecological dimension of Donetsk region

Published 06 March 2026 year, 12:15

The Donetsk Regional Ecological and Naturalistic Center hosted a podcast entitled "Shevchenko LIVE," dedicated to the 212th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko's birth. The event took the form of a live dialogue within the framework of a meeting of the Children's Ecological Parliament.

The guest of the meeting was Oleg Maksymenko, a writer, local historian, and head of the Mykola Rybalko Literary Association (Kramatorsk). Together with the leaders of the Children's Ecological Parliament, he spoke about the role of nature in Shevchenko's work, its symbolism, and its significance for understanding the Kobzar's poetry.

The young participants asked the guest why images of the steppe, rivers, and gardens appear so often in Shevchenko's works, which of his poems help to feel the beauty of Ukrainian nature, and what environmental issues might concern the poet today. During the meeting, poetic excerpts from Shevchenko were recited by students of the DOENC and speaker Oleg Maksimenko.

Taras Shevchenko's work remains relevant today, as his words teach us to love nature, protect our native land, and treat the environment responsibly.
