Every day, evacuation teams from the “Skhid SOS” Charitable Foundation help at least 15 people escape from settlements near the front lines. From the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, the foundation evacuates families with children, older adults, people with disabilities, and pet owners along with their pets. The first stop on the journey to safety is the transit centers.
Among those whom the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation helped leave a frontline city in late September was 76-year-old Kateryna Vasylivna.
She had lived in Kramatorsk for many years. This past summer, due to the deteriorating security situation, she left for a few weeks, but her heart ached to return home. After the tragic death of her son, Kateryna Vasylivna could no longer remain in the frontline city and decided to evacuate.
After rescuing her from danger, the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation team provided her with the necessary logistical support at the transit center in Lozova. The foundation’s team transported her to Dnipro, where she was met by relatives with whom Kateryna will be staying from now on.
The full-cycle evacuation was carried out as part of the project “Multisectoral Humanitarian Response with a Focus on Protection in the Eastern Regions of Ukraine,” which is implemented with the support of ActionAid and financial support from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO).
