Job searching is always about change. And changes, even if they are positive, are often accompanied by stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. That is why mental health has become one of the key topics for the employment service, which has joined the information campaign “How are you?” — an initiative to support Ukrainians in the field of psycho-emotional well-being.
The program “How are you?”, initiated by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with the support of partners, reminds us that taking care of mental health is just as important as physical health. And it is often a person's internal state that determines how confidently they enter the job search process, go through interviews, communicate with employers, and make decisions about their career.
How is mental health related to employment?
When a person is in a depressed state, it is difficult for them not only to believe in themselves but even to start looking for a job. Thoughts often arise: “I won’t be able to do anything,” “My experience is not needed by anyone,” “Why try if it won’t work?” It is at such moments that it is important not to be alone.
Employment service specialists help clients every day not only in the technical aspects of employment (creating resumes, selecting vacancies, training) but also in psychological support. After all, working with a career advisor is also about believing in oneself, understanding one’s strengths, motivation, and a new start. Even a small psychological conversation or simple advice can become a support point for change.
What to do if you don’t know where to start?
Contact a career advisor at the nearest employment service unit. They will help you determine what exactly is causing your uncertainty and how to proceed.
Use electronic services: creating a resume, selecting vacancies, taking career guidance tests.
Take online mental health courses available within the “How are you?” program.
Mental health is not something separate from job searching. It is its foundation. If you feel stable, you search and make decisions confidently. The campaign “How are you?” is a reminder that asking yourself “how am I?” is the first step towards change. And the employment service is there for you at this moment.
