Even before dawn, when the sky over Myrnohrad was torn apart by flashes from drones, five residents made a difficult decision to leave their homes to escape.
Mr. Mykola was among them. The day before, he had suffered a terrible loss: his mother was killed by a drone strike and had to be buried right in the garden near his own home. Together with his brother, his wife, a neighbor and her son, he set off on a long and dangerous journey.
They were mostly elderly people. Without transportation, without communication, to the sounds of explosions, they walked with faith in salvation. Mykola walked in front, next to his bicycle and his faithful dog. He had to get there first to pass on the news: "We are coming. We are alive. Help us."
Their journey lasted about 12 hours. The road ran past destroyed cars, wreckage and the bodies of those who did not have time to escape. Drones were circling in the sky, and fear was everywhere. But they were able to overcome this path.
At the intermediate evacuation point in Donetsk Oblast, the team of the Humanitarian Mission "Proliska", working with the support of UNHCR Ukraine, the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine, immediately provided Mr. Mykola with the necessary assistance. They found accommodation options for him and developed alternative evacuation routes for those who were still on the road.
Because rescue is not just about logistics. It is about compassion, speed and determination.
The Humanitarian Mission "Proliska" continues to work on adaptive routes for residents of Myrnohrad so that everyone who seeks to escape has a chance for safety, support and a new life.
