How can a museum collection be preserved if the museum artifacts themselves no longer exist? In times of war, digital technologies become one of the tools for preserving memory and cultural heritage.
On September 19, the Mariupol Local History Museum will present its case study at the Tourist Information Center in Chernivtsi. As a result of the full-scale invasion and occupation of Mariupol, the museum lost its collections and documentation. However, throughout 2025, the museum created a digital catalog of its art collection based on preserved photocopies of its inventory books.
Project curator Natalia Aruslanova will discuss the main stages of creating the catalog, as well as working with data in wartime conditions: processing and verifying it using artificial intelligence software, collaborating with partner organizations, web developers, and other specialists.
