On September 4, at the initiative of the Bakhmut District State Administration and to mark the Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Ukraine who died fighting for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, a district memorial event titled “WE REMEMBER. WE HONOR. WE WILL NOT FORGET.”
The event was attended by representatives of the Regional State Administration’s Department of Veterans’ Policy, the Bakhmut District State Administration, as well as specialists in veterans’ policy from the Bakhmut, Svitlodar, Siversk, Soledar, Toretsk, and Chasovoyarsk city communities and the Zvanivska rural community.
Inna Starostina, Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration’s Department of Veterans’ Policy, addressed the families of the fallen defenders in attendance, expressing gratitude for keeping the memory of their fellow countrymen—the heroes—alive.
We would like to inform you that, as of today, there are 232 known Defenders of Ukraine—both men and women—who were born and lived in the Bakhmut District and died defending Ukraine.
Behind each of them lies an ordinary story: a childhood, a family, friends, a passion, dreams, and plans. Each had their own life journey, but they were all united by the decision to defend their country.
Their names will forever remain in the history of the Bakhmut District, Donetsk Oblast, and Ukraine.
