October 27 is Ukrainian Writing and Language Day, a holiday that unites all those who appreciate the power of words, the beauty of their native language, and the spiritual heritage of our people.

Every year, Ukrainian Writing and Language Day serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving national identity, respecting our native language, and fostering unity among the Ukrainian people.

To mark the occasion, the humanitarian hubs in Donetsk Oblast—which continue to support internally displaced persons across various regions of Ukraine—have organized themed events such as “Our Language Is Like a Viburnum,” “Treasures of the Native Language,” “Pumpkin Fest: Ukrainian Words, Traditions, and Creativity,” “Experts in the Ukrainian Language,” “Language Unites,” “Our Native Language, the Ukrainian Word—Our Wealth,” “The Native Language from A to Z,” and “Literary Evenings,” aimed at promoting the Ukrainian language, developing linguistic culture, and fostering respect for national traditions.

The event programs included linguistics quizzes, literary sessions, thematic discussions, contests for Ukrainian language experts, poetry readings, and introductions to the works of prominent Ukrainian writers.

Participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge, recall interesting facts about the history of Ukrainian writing, discover new aspects of the literary heritage, and experience the beauty of their native language.

Today, staff members at humanitarian hubs and centers, together with residents of the Donetsk region, took part in the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation of National Unity titled “The Letter That Never Ends.” This is not just a test of knowledge; it is an expression of love for the Ukrainian language and respect for Ukrainian culture and history.

Special attention was paid at the humanitarian hubs and centers to involving children and youth in the events. Through creative activities, language games, reading works by Ukrainian authors, and creating themed drawings, children learned to cherish the Ukrainian language, expanded their vocabulary, and developed an interest in national culture.

For residents of the Donetsk region who were forced to leave their homes due to Russian armed aggression, such events hold special significance. They help maintain a connection to their homeland, preserve cultural traditions, and foster a sense of unity with their community even while far from home.

The humanitarian hubs in Donetsk Oblast are not only places to receive aid and counseling, but also centers of Ukrainian culture, communication, and mutual support. Holding language and literary events helps strengthen national identity, foster a cultural environment, and unite people around shared values.

The Ukrainian language is our history, our strength, and our future! Let’s cherish our native language, pass it on to future generations, and remember: as long as the Ukrainian language lives, so does the unbreakable spirit of the Ukrainian people.
