On May 23, Ukraine celebrates Hero's Day, a day when we honor those who give their lives for the sake of our country's independence and freedom. This is a special moment that provides an opportunity to remember the courage of those who defend our independence and draw inspiration from their examples.
On this day, as part of the Stories of the Brave project of the Novodonetsk village community, an online meeting was held with a serviceman, Master Sergeant Vitaliy, who shared his experience of service, trials and challenges he had to face.
Vitaliy is not just a military man. He was a member of the brigade that participated in one of the most significant military events - the sinking of the cruiser Moskva. Currently, he is the brigade's chief sergeant in the Ukrainian Navy, having started his career as an ordinary volunteer soldier in 2014. His combat path took him from Shyrokyne to Donetsk Prokofiev Airport. A recipient of state awards, he has been wounded and concussed, and before the war he worked as an agronomist and had his own farm.
As part of the project “Side by Side: Cohesive Communities,” the youth of the Kholmky community were invited to the event. During the meeting, the youth of Novodonetsk and Kholmkiv communities had the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the everyday life of the military, as well as ways to support the army and help the defenders.
Vitaliy emphasized the importance of unity and mutual support in these difficult times, urging young people to be active citizens and patriots. His stories became an inspiration for all participants, reminding them of the value of peace and the need to protect our country.
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their sincere gratitude to the Hero for his service, emphasizing that such stories are important for shaping the consciousness of young people and developing patriotism.
The online meeting was an important step in honoring the Heroes who are fighting for our freedom. It demonstrated how joint initiatives can unite young people around the values of patriotism and support for Ukraine's defenders.
