As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” an online meeting was held between educators and students from the Bakhmut and Hostomel communities. The event, themed “From Heart to Heart,” brought together remembrance, support, and volunteerism.
The meeting began with a conversation with Suren Sargsyan, a defender of Ukraine who fought to defend the country and participated in the defense of the fortress city. He shared memories of his combat experience and the events that have forever become part of the history of indomitable Bakhmut.
Students from Bakhmut Educational Complex No. 11 and Lyceum No. 1 of the Gostomel Village Council spoke about their own experiences participating in volunteer projects. They also discussed student self-governance, including how students can initiate good deeds, engage their peers, and support those in need.
The hands-on portion of the event involved making chevrons. In each piece, the children expressed words of gratitude to Ukrainian soldiers, as well as their care and support.
At the end of the event, participants presented their work, shared their impressions, and discussed ideas for future collaboration. The meeting demonstrated that, for children, volunteering is a way to help and be part of a common cause, supporting one another and those who are defending Ukraine today.
