Due to Russia's full-scale aggression, 141 residents of the Bakhmut Psychoneurological Boarding School were evacuated to Latvia. There they found shelter and support, but never forgot about their homeland. Recently, the boys have won a brilliant victory that has become a symbol of their resilience.
In August 2025, the Kalkuni branch of the State Social Centers of Latvia hosted a large-scale sports event for people with special needs. After the grand opening, the competitions began - relay races and active games. The Kalkuny team, which included Ukrainian athletes from the Bakhmut Psychoneurological Boarding School, took part in the event.
The team prepared a bright creative performance, but the real triumph was their participation in the competition. Thanks to their perseverance and team spirit, they won an honorable second place. As the players themselves noted, the victory was not easy, but it was especially important. They dedicated it to their homeland and called it "Let there be peace in our Ukraine".
The event was filled with a festive atmosphere: participants could get temporary tattoos, decorate their faces with drawings and get a creative hairstyle. At the end, everyone received medals and memorable gifts.
This victory is yet another testament to the resilience and strength of spirit of Ukrainians who, far from home, continue to fight and believe in the bright future of their country. We are proud of our champions and look forward to their return home. Everything will be Ukraine!
