Conditions for Granting and Paying Compensation for Food to Citizens Affected by the Chornobyl Disaster

Starting from July 1, 2025, the Pension Fund of Ukraine has been assigned the responsibility of granting and paying compensation for the cost of food to citizens affected by the Chornobyl disaster (Law of Ukraine dated 28.02.1991 No. 796-XII).

Compensation is provided to individuals who have been granted one of the following statuses:

Participant in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident (Category 1 or 2);

Participant in the liquidation of other nuclear accidents (Category 1 or 2);

Victim of the Chornobyl disaster (Category 1 or 2);

Victim of radiation exposure (Category 1 or 2).

To apply for and receive the compensation, the following documents must be submitted:

🔸 Application;

🔸 Copy of the certificate confirming the relevant status (as listed above);

🔸 Copy of the taxpayer identification number or passport series and number with a mark of refusal to obtain a tax number.

How to apply:

🔸 By visiting a service center of the Pension Fund of Ukraine;

🔸 By mail or electronically via the Diia portal;

🔸 Through authorized representatives of the executive body of a village, settlement, or city council of the respective territorial community or through an Administrative Service Center (CNAP).

The monetary compensation will be granted no later than 10 days after the application and all required documents are received.

Compensation will not be provided in the following cases:

🔸 Incomplete submission of the required list of documents;

🔸 Change of registration address;

🔸 Loss of the status of participant in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster or other nuclear accidents (Categories 1 or 2), or victim of the Chornobyl disaster or radiation exposure (Categories 1 or 2).
